Shirlyne is the third-born child in a family of three children. She lives with both parents in a single-roomed house that offers very limited space and lacks basic amenities. Neither parent has stable employment. The father, who is the sole breadwinner, depends entirely on irregular casual jobs that are scarce and unpredictable, while the mother remains at home due to lack of income opportunities. As a result, the family struggles to meet their daily needs, often living hand-to-mouth and finding it difficult to afford essentials such as adequate food, medication, and healthcare. Shirlyne is a cheerful child who enjoys dancing, singing, and reading. She dreams of becoming a singer when she grows up. Shirlyne fell ill two days prior to being taken to the hospital. She experienced recurrent vomiting and intermittent fever accompanied by chills. At home, the mother had no painkillers or fever-reducing medication to administer, and Shirlyne’s temperature continued to rise. She had one episode of convulsions which lasted almost 2 minutes at home, which was coupled with frothing from the mouth. Concerned about her worsening condition and unable to manage her symptoms at home, the mother rushed her to the hospital to seek medical attention. The family had previously learned about Helpster Charity through community members who had benefited from the program, which gave them hope that Shirlyne could receive medical assistance despite their financial challenges.

SHIRLYNE REPORTED WITH COMPLAINS OF HOTNESS OF BODY ACCOMPANIED WITH CHILLS, VOMITTING AND SMALL OPEN WOUNDS INDICATING ALLERGIC REACTION. MALARIA WAS CONFIRMED POSITIVE ANDTHE CHILD WAS PUT ONANTIMALARIAL DRUGS (INJECTIONS) AND COMPLETED THE DOSAGE.ALLERGY THAT CAUSED SMALL WOUNDS IN SOME BODY PARTS WAS TREATED WITH ORAL ANTIBIOTIC

Following the diagnosis of severe malaria complicated by febrile convulsions, Shirlyne’s prognosis is good with prompt and appropriate medical management. After receiving urgent antimalarial treatment, fever control, and supportive care, the seizures are expected to resolve as the fever subsides. With close monitoring during the acute phase, the risk of recurrent convulsions or neurological complications is significantly reduced. Provided that treatment is completed as prescribed and follow-up care is maintained, Shirlyne is expected to recover fully.
