Alfred Odhiambo O., 15

Alfred is the fourth-born in a family of six. His mother passed away when the children were still very young, and he now lives with his stepmother. The stepmother is a peasant farmer and relies entirely on Alfred’s father, a motorcycle rider, who is the sole provider for the family, meeting their needs for food, school fees, and other basic necessities. Alfred is a cheerful and talkative boy who loves football and proudly plays as a goalkeeper at his school. When he grows up, he dreams of becoming either a teacher or a professional footballer. The family learned about Helpster Charity through a neighbor who had previously received assistance from the organization and shared their experience with them, explaining that Helpster supports sick and underprivileged children at St Anne's hospital. Alfred began complaining of stomach pain and headaches while playing football with his friends. His stepmother initially gave him painkillers at home, but his symptoms did not improve. Later that night, his condition worsened, and he developed loose stools and began vomiting persistently. Concerned, the family brought him to the hospital, where he was attended to promptly. Initial assessment led to a diagnosis of severe malaria. The following morning, further investigations were carried out, including stool examination, which confirmed a diagnosis of amoebiasis.

Alfred was admitted in our facility and was commenced on antimalarials and antibiotics he showed great and positive prognosis while in the ward and upon discharge he had recovered from the signs and symptoms he came with.He has gone back home and joined the family in their daily chores.Upon control visit,the step mother reported that Alref has moved to Seme to stay with another relative where he will be schooling from there.Currently he has moved.

Following the diagnosis of malaria and amoebiasis, Alfred was started on appropriate treatment promptly. With timely antimalarial and anti-amoebic therapy, along with supportive care to manage vomiting and diarrhea, his condition is expected to improve steadily. Given that the illnesses were identified early and managed effectively, Alfred’s prognosis is good. With adherence to the full course of medication and adequate hydration, a full recovery is anticipated.
