Sheila A., 19

Sheila is the youngest child in her family. She lives with her two children, her sister, and her grandmother in a modest two-roomed mud-walled house. Although she completed high school, financial constraints prevented her from pursuing further education. Sheila is currently unemployed and relies on her grandmother, a peasant farmer, to provide for her and her children. She aspires to become a nurse in the future and first learned about Helpster Charity during a hospital visit. Sheila explained that she did not realize she was pregnant until her grandmother pointed out the signs. She subsequently went to a nearby clinic, where she tested positive for pregnancy, thanks to sponsorship from a neighbor who gave her some money for purchase of the test kit. She attended four antenatal care (ANC) visits, walking more than 25 minutes each way to reach the facility. One evening, she began experiencing abdominal pain, which she initially thought would subside. The pain worsened the following morning while she was alone at home, and her cries for help alerted a neighbor who assisted her to a local midwife. Sheila delivered twins prematurely at seven months at home. Following the ordeal, she remained at home for over a week. During a routine post natal clinic visit, doctors observed that she appeared pale and weak, leading to her admission for appropriate medical management.

Sheila came to the hospital for a routine checkup, she was pale and appeared tired. She was diagnosed with anemia and admitted. She was transfused blood and administered other medication towhich she responded well and she was eventually discharged on orals

Following her diagnosis of postpartum anemia, Sheila was promptly started on appropriate treatment, including blood transfusion, iron supplementation, folate, and supportive care as per medical guidance. With adherence to the prescribed therapy, her prognosis is favorable, and she is expected to recover fully, regain her strength, and resume caring for her twins and household responsibilities.
