Two-month-old Shihab Hossain is a calm and delicate baby who lives with his parents, twin brothers Tarif and Minhaj, and elderly grandparents in a small rented home in Dhaka. After being born very early and spending 32 days in the hospital, doctors recently identified a serious condition in both of his eyes that now requires urgent treatment to prevent permanent loss of vision. His father, Tarek Hossain, earns only 11,000 Taka per month as a sales helper, which must support seven family members, and the family has already exhausted their savings on the triplets’ hospital care and daily expenses. With such limited income, arranging further medical treatment for all three babies is beyond their capacity. They learned about Helpster Charity through a Helpster volunteer in Dhaka and Nasima Akhter, Counselor of the Pediatric Unit at Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital in Chandpur, and are now humbly seeking assistance to save their children’s eyesight and future.

Shihab Hossain, a 1-month-old baby boy, was admitted for urgent management of Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) in both eyes, a condition that can lead to permanent vision loss if left untreated. After thorough evaluation, he received Anti-VEGF injection on 27.11.2025, administered by Dr. Md. Saiful Islam, the hospital’s ROP Specialist. The treatment process was carefully planned and executed, with close monitoring to ensure safety and effectiveness. During his stay, his response to the treatment was positive, showing encouraging signs of recovery. The abnormal growth of retinal blood vessels has now been successfully controlled. His retinal condition has improved significantly, and doctors are hopeful that he will develop clear vision in the future. He was discharged in stable condition with advice for regular follow-up, and heartfelt thanks go to Helpster Charity and Helpster Heroes for making this life-changing treatment possible.

According to Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain Sheikh, Chief Consultant, and Dr. Md. Saiful Islam, ROP Specialist at Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital, Chandpur, Shihab urgently requires Anti-VEGF injections (Avastin) in both eyes, followed by routine follow-up care to allow normal retinal development. Doctors confirm that if treatment is given promptly, his vision can be saved, allowing him to grow up like other children. However, delay in treatment may lead to irreversible blindness. The required treatment and follow-up cost BDT 18,000, which is beyond the family’s financial capacity. Immediate assistance can protect Shihab’s eyesight and give him and his brothers a chance for a bright future.
