Jannat Akter, a one-month-old premature twin baby, lives with her parents and twin brother in a modest home where her father earns only about 8,000 BDT per month as a mason, making it extremely difficult to cover daily needs and impossible to afford specialized eye treatment. She is a fragile yet gentle baby whose small responses bring hope to her parents, who dream of seeing both twins grow up healthy and educated. After surviving early breathing complications, she has now been diagnosed with Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP), a serious condition that threatens her vision. The family came to know about Helpster Charity through Helpster volunteer Shamim Khan and sought support for her treatment. Without timely care, her condition may lead to permanent blindness, affecting her entire future and development.

Jannat Akter, a 1-month-old baby girl, was diagnosed with Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) in both eyes, a condition that can seriously affect vision if not treated promptly. To manage the abnormal growth of retinal blood vessels, Anti-VEGF injections were administered on 20.11.2025 by Dr. Md. Saiful Islam, the hospital’s ROP Specialist. The treatment was carried out with great care, and she was closely monitored during follow-up visits. She responded well to the injections, showing steady improvement in her retinal condition. The abnormal blood vessel growth is now under control, and her retina is gradually stabilizing. Doctors remain hopeful that she will develop clear vision as she grows. According to Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain Sheikh, Chief Consultant, and Dr. Md. Saiful Islam, ROP Specialist at Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital, Chandpur, both twins urgently require Anti-VEGF injections (such as Avastin) in both eyes, followed by regular follow-up examinations to ensure normal retinal development. Doctors confirm that if treatment is provided promptly, the babies have a strong chance of preserving their vision and growing up like other children. However, delaying treatment could lead to irreversible blindness. The total treatment and follow-up cost is BDT 18,000, an amount impossible for the family to arrange due to financial hardship.
