Masum Islam is a 7-month-old child living in a remote village with his parents and elder brother. His parents rely on a very limited income and were unable to bear the cost of referral and treatment at a tertiary hospital after Masum was diagnosed with severe pneumonia. Despite receiving initial care at a government hospital, his condition worsened, and he now suffers from persistent fever, cough, and severe respiratory distress. Without urgent and proper treatment, his condition may progress to respiratory failure and become life-threatening. In this critical situation, the family was informed about Helpster Charity by Sadika Rahman, a worker associated with Helpster, and they approached the organization seeking lifesaving support for their child.

Masum Islam is a 4-month-old child, had been battling recurrent respiratory tract infections for the past few days, but this time, his condition worsened as he developed pneumonia. Despite multiple courses of antibiotics from local pharmacies, his health continued to decline, leaving him lethargic and in a toxic state. In desperate need of emergency hospitalization, he received critical care at City Clinic, including oxygen therapy, nebulization with sulbutamol, ipratropium bromide, budesonide, and injectable antibiotics, along with hydrocortisone due to the seriousness of his condition. Masum was admitted on 17/12/25, received treatment, and was discharged from the hospital on 22/12/25. Now, after receiving the care he needed, Masum is doing well and has returned home, bringing joy back to his family. With tears of gratitude in their eyes, his parents said, "Thank you to Helpster Donors and City Clinic; we are forever grateful for your support!"

Pneumonia should be treated with antibiotics, oxygen support and other supportive therapy under admission in a hospital. If left untreated, pneumonia may lead to the permanent lung damage, respiratory failure, septicemia (infection entering blood stream and causing sepsis), pleural effusion (accumulation of fluid in the space between the lung and chest wall, which can make breathing difficult), and other life-threatening complications.
