Why is treatment done earlier than admission?

Sometimes, when a case is urgent and vital, hospitals may proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalization of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts.
That's why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Background

Lavine is the mother of Gerald, her third child. Lavine is a teenage mother whose dream of becoming a beauty therapist was disrupted by early pregnancy. She is currently separated from her husband and lives with her widowed mother. Lavine comes from a large family of six siblings and has a strong interest in farming and beauty therapy. Gerald, a one-day-old newborn, developed complications shortly after birth. He presented with poor breastfeeding, seizures, fever with a temperature of 38.6°C, and excessive crying, indicating a serious neonatal condition that required urgent medical attention. While at the hospital, Lavine repeatedly expressed concern about the rising medical bill and her inability to afford the cost of treatment. During her conversations with the hospital staff, the social worker took note of her distress and intervened. The social worker informed her about Helpster Charity, an organization that supports underprivileged patients with medical expenses. Lavine was further informed that Helpster Charity could assist her if a thorough social assessment confirmed that she was genuinely unable to meet the hospital costs. It was confirmed that she was indeed needy

Medical history

The child was admitted just one day after birth, he was put on xpen, gentamycin and paracetamol injections. he spend 3 days in the ward and was discharged after showing marked improvement

Prognosis

Neonatal sepsis prognosis is guarded, highly dependent on early diagnosis and treatment, with premature/low-birth-weight infants facing higher mortality and long-term risks like cerebral palsy, cognitive/sensory deficits, while prompt care improves outcomes, though severe cases can lead to organ failure or death, highlighting the critical need for rapid, effective antibiotics and supportive care. Doctors emphasize that while most recover with timely treatment, severe sepsis demands intensive support and rehabilitation, stressing the urgency of recognizing symptoms like temperature instability, respiratory distress, or poor feeding. Sepsis is a life-threatening emergency requiring immediate recognition and treatment, as delays increase organ dysfunction and mortality. Prompt administration of broad-spectrum antibiotics is crucial, with specific choices based on local resistance patterns and pathogen identification. Management includes respiratory support, fluid management, Temperature management and addressing complications like seizures or shock.
