Carley is the first and only child of a single mother. He lives with his mother in a single-room house. His mother recently completed school but is currently unemployed, relying on occasional menial jobs to provide for her son. She describes Carley as a smart, cheerful, and playful boy. The family learned about Helpster Charity from a neighbour whose child had previously received support from the organization. Carley’s mother often leaves him in the care of a neighbour when she goes out to look for casual work. On this particular day, she received an urgent call from the neighbour around midday informing her that Carley had suddenly fallen ill. His body was extremely hot, he was clutching his stomach in pain, and he had frequent episodes of diarrhoea. He was also sweating profusely, weak, and unusually restless. As his condition worsened, he became increasingly lethargic, unable to play or respond normally, which alarmed the neighbour, and the neighbour informed his mother. Upon hearing this, his mother rushed back immediately and took Carley to Siaya County Referral Hospital for urgent medical attention, fearing that his condition could be life-threatening. Carley's mother had heard about a charity organization assisting sick underprivileged children and did not hesitate to bring the child to the hospital, despite the fact that she had no money.

Carley was brought to the hospital with complaints of hotness of the body, stomach ache and diarrhea. He was diagnosed with severe malaria and septicemia which warranted admission. He stayed in the ward for a couple of days where he was treated on IV xpen, IV Artesunate,pcm and ORS for after every loose stool. He responded well to treatment and was eventually discharged on orals. A call to the mother revealed Carleybwas head and had gone back to his normal playing life.

For a 2-year-old diagnosed with both septicemia (sepsis) and severe malaria, the prognosis is considered grave without immediate, high-level medical intervention. The combination of these two conditions is a critical medical emergency, as they often overlap and can lead to rapid multi-organ failure. However, for Carley, prognosis is good since he was brought to the hospital promptly and treatment has been commenced.
