Fatima Y., 7

Fatima is a 7yo female child currently living with her parents in a community outside of the city of Bauchi with distance covering about 30km. They are living in a 3 rooms apartment with a pit toilet, they make use of water from the well for their daily activities. They don't have access to electricity. The Child is not currently in school due to family financial constraints, but hopefully in future she will be enrolled. Fatima a 7-year-old female child presented to our facility with complaints of abdominal pain, vomiting and fever. On examination patient is ill looking, in painful distress, febrile (38.7degree Celsius), mildly jaundiced, uniteric acyanosed. Patient was diagnosed with bone crisis in sickle cell disease. The family are struggling due to financial constraints, they reached out to Helpster Charity volunteer who directed them to Albishir Hospital to be treated under Helpster Charity.

Fatima a 7year old female presented with complaints of abdominal pain, vomiting and fever. On examination patient is ill looking, in painful distress, febrile (38.7 degree Celsius), mildly jaundiced, uniteric acyanosed. Patient was diagnosed with bone crisis in sickle cell disease. She was on admission when treatment commenced with some analgesics, then she was on transfusion of fluids to mitigate loss of fluids due to vomiting, in furtherance, she was administered some injection antimalarials, injection antibiotics and other supportive care. Patient was stable, she no longer feels pains or having any complaints. She was discharged with instruction to come back for follow up in due time. Family are happy and excited, they appreciate Helpster Charity for the medical support. Patient is to return follow up after a period of 1 week.

For Fatima a 7-year-old girl with sickle cell disease experiencing a bone crisis, very severe and painful with episodes of fever suggestive of an infection. Early treatment helps relieve pain and prevent complications. The prognosis is good with timely and appropriate treatment. She will recover well within a few days as she was given proper pain relief, fluids, rest, and close monitoring. At her age, it is important to watch for fever or signs of infection and prevent complications. With regular follow-up, vaccinations, good hydration, and medicines such as hydroxyurea when appropriate, she can have fewer painful episodes and continue normal growth and other activities.
