Funmilayo is a 12-year-old teenage girl who attends a government secondary school. She lives in a low-income household with her parents. Her family finds it very difficult to feed, and there are times when they go an entire day without having anything to eat. She presented as an emergency with complaints of fever and abdominal pain that started three days before presentation. The fever was high-grade and intermittent, with associated chills and rigors. It was severe enough to prevent her from attending school and carrying out her usual daily activities. She also had associated body weakness. On examination, Funmilayo looked ill and was febrile, with a temperature of 39.3 degrees Celsius. She was diagnosed with severe malaria. Her parents could not afford to take her to the hospital. Upon admission, the hospital recommended Helpster Charity, and Funmilayo was enrolled to receive support.

She was diagnosed with severe malaria. Treament commenced with injection antimalarials as well as orals, injection antibiotics as well as orals, infusion and other supportive care. Patient did well, became stable and was discharged after three days of admission, patient was requested to return for follow up and advice was given on proper feeding.

The prognosis for Funmilayo a 12-year-old girl with severe malaria depends on early treatment. With prompt hospital care and intravenous antimalarial drugs, she will recover fully. Delayed treatment increases the risk of complications, including anemia, seizures, or brain damage.
