Chrispinus M., 1

Chrispinus is a one-year-old boy and the second child in a family of three. His mother supports the family through a small-scale business, earning less than KES 1,000 per month. They live in a single-room rental house and fetch their drinking water from a public tap. Despite these challenges, Chrispinus is described as an active and energetic child when well. Five days prior to presentation, Chrispinus developed symptoms including high fever, refusal to feed, and repeated vomiting. Due to financial constraints, his mother initially delayed seeking medical care. However, she recalled health education sessions given by a nurse during routine immunization visits, where mothers were taught that refusal to feed is a serious warning sign in children, as it can quickly lead to dehydration and severe complications. After discussing her concerns with a church member, she decided to take Chrispinus to Mechimeru Health Centre. At the facility, Chrispinus was assessed and enrolled for support under Helpster Charity, which enabled him to access free medical treatment.

Patient treated under close monitoring on empirical antibiotics ,painkillers and antiemetics with good prognosis.

Chrispinus’s prognosis is good, as he was finally started on appropriate medication and received treatment for dehydration in time. With sustained medical care and adherence to prescribed treatment, Chrispinus is expected to make a full recovery and return to good health.
