Israel Ochieng O., 6

Israel is a six-year-old boy from a humble background and the fifth child in a family of six from K Village in Awasi. His mother is a housewife, while his father works as a casual labourer, taking on any available jobs in the village to support the family. Israel enjoys spending time with his friends, playing hide-and-seek, and watching cartoons. He dreams of becoming a journalist when he grows up. Two days before admission, Israel suddenly developed irritability, loss of appetite, headache, fever, nausea, and persistent vomiting, unable to keep any food down. During a routine visit, a Community Health Promoter found the children in severe discomfort and immediately facilitated their transfer to the health facility. Israel was first attended to in the emergency department, where he was stabilized before being admitted to the children’s ward for continued treatment. When Israel's father arrived, he expressed that he was unable to pay the medical bills and requested that the child be discharged, even though Israel was still undergoing treatment and was not ready for discharge. At that point, the family was informed about Helpster Charity Organization, and after consenting, Israel’s treatment and care were able to continue.

Israel was brought to the facility when his condition was not good,he had high fever,weak and was not able to support himself.The doctor initiated treatment immediately which he responded to positively and condition betterised.By the third day in the facility he had recovered and was ready for discharge.

Israel was diagnosed with hypoglycaemia secondary to severe malaria, alongside pneumonia, a combination of conditions that placed him in a critical and life-threatening state. He required urgent admission, glucose correction, antimalarial therapy, antibiotics, and close monitoring to stabilize his condition and prevent complications such as seizures, respiratory failure, or organ damage. Following timely and appropriate treatment, Israel’s condition begun to improve, and his prognosis is good. With continued medication, proper nutrition, and follow-up care, he is expected to recover fully.
