Sasha is the second-born child in a family of two. She lives with both parents in a single-room, grass-thatched house at her grandmother’s homestead. Both parents have no stable source of income. The father is the main provider, relying on irregular casual jobs to support the household. Sasha’s mother reported that the baby had been experiencing cough, fever, refusal to breastfeed, diarrhoea, and vomiting for more than three days. During this period, she had not been able to administer any medication at home. By the time she decided to rush Sasha to the hospital, the baby was struggling to breathe and crying excessively, indicating a worsening condition. Walking up and about, not knowing what to do, with the child tied on her back, Sasha’s mother met a neighbour whose child had previously benefited from support through Helpster Charity. After listening to her concerns and learning about her financial challenges, the neighbour informed her about Helpster Charity, an organisation that supports vulnerable patients at Mechimeru Health Centre. Encouraged by this information, Sasha’s mother took her to the hospital, hoping she would receive the urgent medical care she needed with the support of Helpster Charity. The child was diagnosed with severe pneumonia and gastroenteritis

SASHA WAS MANAGED WELL, WITH I.V FLUIDS, ANTIBIOTICS AND OTHER MEDICATIONS ACCORDING TO MEDICAL REPORT. HER CONDITION IMPROVED AND SHE BECAME STABLE. SHE WAS THEN DISCHARGED HOME TO CONTINUE WITH ORAL MEDICATIONS. A FOLLOWUP CALL CONFIRMED THAT SHE FULLY RECOVERED AND WAS DOING WELL.

The prognosis of severe pneumonia refers to the likely outcome of a severe lung infection, which, despite advancements in medicine, remains a high-risk condition with a mortality rate of approximately 20–50% for patients requiring intensive care. While 90–95% of general pneumonia cases recover well, severe cases often involve significant complications. The prognosis of gastroenteritis is generally excellent, as the condition is usually acute and self-limiting, meaning it resolves on its own within a few days. For most healthy adults, recovery occurs within 1–3 days, although some cases may last up to 14 days. While usually, the outcome is positive, the prognosis depends heavily on the speed of rehydration and the vulnerability of the patient.
