Fatima Adamu Ibrahim is a 20-year-old woman and the first of eleven children in her family. She completed her senior secondary education but could not continue her studies due to financial constraints. As the eldest, she supports her parents in caring for her younger siblings and hopes to secure stable employment to contribute meaningfully to her family’s needs. She was initially well before developing repeated vomiting, severe headache, and persistent high fever with chills and sweating, which left her very weak and unable to carry out her daily activities. She also experienced severe heartburn and burning epigastric pain, especially after eating, leading to poor appetite. As her condition worsened with increasing fatigue, dizziness, and restlessness, she was rushed to Nakowa Hospital, where she was admitted for treatment and close monitoring under the support of the Helpster Charity Foundation program.

20year old Fatima Adamu Ibrahim was admitted on 22nd January 2026 after being diagnosed with severe malaria, enteric fever, and peptic ulcer disease (PUD). She received intravenous artesunate to treat severe malaria, ceftriaxone for enteric fever, omeprazole to manage her peptic ulcer disease, along with intravenous fluids, paracetamol, and other supportive medications to relieve her symptoms and restore her strength. Over the course of her treatment, her fever subsided, her abdominal pain and heartburn improved, and she gradually regained her appetite and energy. Fatima was discharged in stable condition on 24th January 2026 with medications and follow-up care to support her full recovery. She sincerely thanks Helpster Charity for funding her treatment and giving her the opportunity to regain her health and continue pursuing a brighter future for herself and her family.

Fatima’s prognosis is good with early and appropriate treatment; however, her condition required urgent medical intervention because the combination of persistent high fever, repeated vomiting, abdominal pain, and marked weakness placed significant stress on her body. The severe infection affecting her blood reduced oxygen delivery to tissues, while the ongoing intestinal infection and gastric irritation impaired her ability to eat and maintain adequate hydration. Without prompt care, these conditions could have progressed to severe dehydration, worsening anemia, gastrointestinal bleeding, or other serious complications. With timely administration of antimalarial therapy, appropriate antibiotics, gastric protective medications, fluid replacement, and nutritional support, her symptoms are expected to resolve fully. Close monitoring during admission helps ensure stabilization of her vital signs and prevention of complications. With adherence to medications, proper feeding, rest, and follow-up care, Fatima is expected to make a complete recovery and gradually regain her strength.
