Fatima Abubakar Mohammed is a 17-year-old girl from Lagos Street, Maiduguri, who helps her family with household chores, knits caps, and attends Islamiyya classes. Gentle and responsible, she is known for her calm and caring nature. She developed burning epigastric pain worsened by meals, loss of appetite, nausea, and later high-grade fever with chills, headache, and severe weakness. As her condition worsened, she was taken to Nakowa Hospital, where she was diagnosed with severe malaria complicated by peptic ulcer disease. She was admitted and treated under the Helpster Charity Foundation, with medications, fluids, and close monitoring, leading to gradual improvement.

Amina was admitted to the hospital after complaining of severe stomach pain, persistent fever, weakness, and general body discomfort. After medical examination and investigations, she was diagnosed with Acute Peptic Ulcer Disease (PUD) and Severe Malaria. Due to the seriousness of her symptoms, she was admitted for immediate treatment and monitoring. She was treated with Suspension Gestid 10ml three times daily for 5 days, Capsule Omeprazole 20mg once daily for 10 days, and Tablet Buscopan twice daily for 5 days to relieve stomach pain and reduce stomach acid caused by the ulcer. To treat the malaria infection, she received Lonart DS twice daily for 3 days. Paracetamol tablets three times daily for 3 days and Intramuscular Paracetamol for 3 days were given to control fever and body pains. She was also administered Intramuscular E-Mall 150mg for 3 days for malaria treatment, Intravenous Omeprazole 40mg stat to quickly stabilize her stomach condition, and Intravenous fluids (5% Normal Saline) 1 litre to help restore strength and prevent dehydration. With proper medical care and adherence to the treatment plan, Amina gradually improved. Her fever subsided, the malaria infection cleared, and the severe stomach pain reduced significantly. She regained her strength and was stable enough to be discharged. With early diagnosis and appropriate treatment, both acute peptic ulcer disease and severe malaria generally have a good prognosis in adolescents. Prompt administration of antimalarial medications, gastric protective therapy, adequate hydration, and nutritional support typically lead to full recovery and resolution of symptoms. Fatima responded well to treatment during admission, with reduction of fever, relief of abdominal pain, improved appetite, and gradual restoration of strength. However, delayed or inadequate care could have resulted in complications such as severe anemia, dehydration, or gastrointestinal bleeding. With continued medications, proper feeding, and regular follow-up, a complete recovery is expected.
