Auwal Abdullahi Mohammed is an 11-year-old boy, the third of six children, living with his family in a one-room-and-parlor apartment. His father is an Islamic teacher with limited income, while his mother is a full-time housewife. Despite financial hardship, Auwal attends a government school, enjoys playing football, and dreams of becoming a doctor. He presented with persistent high fever, chills, severe weakness, intense headache, abdominal pain, vomiting, cough, breathing difficulty, and widespread skin rashes with sores, leading to marked fatigue and inability to eat or sit unaided. Investigations revealed positive malaria parasite and Widal tests, with a PCV of 35%. Due to the severity of his condition, he was admitted immediately for urgent medical treatment and close monitoring.

11 year old Auwal Abdullahi Mohammed was admitted on 22nd January 2026 in a weak condition with severe malaria, bacterial infection, mild anaemia, fever, abdominal pain, vomiting, cough, and painful skin rashes. He received antimalarial treatment, antibiotics, IV fluids, medications for fever, vomiting, cough, and skin care, with close monitoring by the medical team. His condition improved steadily as his fever reduced, appetite returned, and his strength gradually recovered. Auwal was discharged on 25th January 2026 with follow-up advice and continued medications. With prompt and appropriate medical care, Auwal’s prognosis is good but requires careful follow-up. His fever, weakness, and dehydration are expected to improve with continued medications, rest, and proper nutrition, while his cough and breathing difficulties should resolve as the respiratory infection clears. The abdominal pain, nausea, and diarrhea from enteric fever are likely to subside with antibiotic therapy, allowing his digestion and appetite to return to normal. His skin lesions should heal with proper wound care and hygiene, reducing pain, itching, and the risk of secondary infection. However, due to the severity of his combined illnesses and his prior frailty, full recovery may be gradual, and he will need continued monitoring to prevent relapse or complications. With ongoing care, adequate nutrition, and a stable home environment, Auwal has a strong chance of regaining his strength, returning to school, and resuming normal childhood activities.
