Why is treatment done earlier than admission?

Sometimes, when a case is urgent and vital, hospitals may proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalization of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts.
That's why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Background

Abdulrashid is a 10-year-old boy, the first of four children, attending a government primary school. He dreams of becoming a medical doctor in the future. He lives with his family in modest conditions without electricity, relying on borehole water for daily use, while his family struggles with limited resources. He presented with high fever, weakness, and signs of significant illness. On examination, he appeared very ill, with fever, pallor, mild jaundice, and fast breathing. His mother had been seeking help without success until they were connected to a charity for support. He was evaluated at a clinic and diagnosed with hemolytic crisis in sickle cell disease, a serious condition requiring urgent medical care.

Medical history

Abdulrashid a 10-year-old male child very ill looking presented with high fever, 38.5o C, palor, mildly icteric, acyanosed with tachypneic. He was diagnosed with hemolytic crisis in sickle cell disease. He was admitted immediately where he had blood transfusion, infusion and treatment of antimalarials and antibiotics was administered to fight infections and stabilize patient. Patient did well and became stable, he was discharged with some take home orals and advice was given for hygiene to avoid re-occurrence of infections.

Prognosis

Hemolytic crisis in sickle cell disease is a serious condition characterized by rapid breakdown of red blood cells, leading to severe anemia, weakness, and jaundice. It can be triggered by infections or other stressors and may compromise oxygen delivery to vital organs, requiring urgent medical management. With prompt treatment, including supportive care, possible blood transfusion, and management of underlying triggers, recovery is achievable. Prognosis is generally good with timely intervention, but delayed or inadequate care may result in severe anemia, organ complications, or life-threatening outcomes.
