Usman is a young boy and the eldest son in his family, carrying responsibilities beyond his age while holding onto his dream of becoming a nurse. Despite the challenges around him, he remains hopeful for a future where he can care for others. He presented with a 7-day history of high-grade fever with chills and rigors, associated with abdominal pain and repeated vomiting. On examination, he appeared markedly pale, with a fever of 38.4°C, raising concern for significant illness. Investigations revealed high malaria parasite levels, and he was diagnosed with severe malaria complicated by gastritis, a serious condition requiring urgent medical care.

Usman was admitted with a diagnosis of severe malaria complicated by gastroenteritis, presenting with high-grade fever, vomiting, diarrhea, and marked weakness. On arrival, he was dehydrated and required urgent medical care. Treatment was promptly initiated with intravenous Artesunate to control the malaria infection. He also received intravenous fluids for rehydration, along with Paracetamol to reduce fever. Oral rehydration solution was introduced as vomiting subsided, and medications were given to control diarrhea and restore electrolyte balance. Close monitoring of vital signs, fluid status, and laboratory parameters was maintained throughout admission. Nutritional support was gradually introduced as his appetite improved. Over the course of treatment, Usman showed steady recovery. His fever resolved, vomiting and diarrhea stopped, and hydration status normalized. Strength and appetite returned progressively. He was discharged in stable condition, advised to complete his medications, maintain good hygiene, and continue adequate hydration. Prognosis was good with full recovery expected.

Severe malaria complicated by gastritis is a serious condition that commonly presents with high fever, vomiting, abdominal pain, and weakness, and may lead to complications such as anemia and dehydration if not promptly treated. With appropriate treatment, including antimalarial therapy, medications for gastritis, and supportive care, recovery is expected. Prognosis is generally good with timely intervention, but delayed or inadequate treatment may result in worsening anemia, dehydration, or other systemic complications.
