Beatrice A., 14

Beatrice is a fourteen-year-old girl in Grade Eight and the youngest in a family of six children, five of whom are surviving. She was initially raised by both parents, but their marriage later broke down when her father remarried against her mother’s wishes. Her mother left the home and never returned, leaving Beatrice and her siblings in the care of their father and stepmother. A year after their mother’s departure, tragedy struck when the firstborn brother passed away due to negligence related to untreated anaemia. Since then, life has become increasingly difficult for Beatrice and her siblings. Their stepmother shows little concern for their well-being, and their father, who is unemployed, depends largely on his second wife’s small-scale vending business in the village. The family struggles financially, and basic needs are often unmet. Beatrice’s second-born brother had to drop out of school to take on small village jobs in order to help support his siblings. Despite these hardships, Beatrice remains resilient. She is a talented athlete with great determination and dreams of becoming a Kenyan champion in the near future. Beatrice was brought to the health facility by her school administration, who were aware of Helpster Charity after an awareness session conducted by our team at their institution. She had been experiencing generalized headache accompanied by high fever, dizziness, chills, vomiting, and reduced appetite. She was handed over to the attending doctor for evaluation. After thorough examination and investigations, she was diagnosed with severe malaria complicated by anaemia and dehydration. Due to the seriousness of her condition, she was recommended for immediate admission for close monitoring and treatment.

Beatrice was admitted in the ward being managed on anti hematinic and antimalarial for three days.The patient was given parenteral antimalarial thera, intravenous fluids, and supportive care, which was safely administered when she was admitted. She started showing some signs of improvement on day two and was finally discharged on day three. On discharge the patient was in stable condition and antibiotics were prescribed to be used at home

The patient was admitted for ward management due to anaemia and severe malaria, a serious condition that requires close medical supervision and prompt treatment. Severe malaria can rapidly lead to complications The patient requires parenteral antimalarial therapy, possible blood transfusion, intravenous fluids, and supportive care, which cannot be safely administered on an outpatient basis. Prognosis is good.
