The child lives with her mother and four siblings. Following the death of her father from an unknown illness one year ago, her mother became the sole provider for the family. She earns a living through casual farm work on other people's farms, often earning very little. While her mother is away working, the child and her siblings usually remain at home. The child developed vomiting, abdominal pain, and blood-stained diarrhoea. Her mother initially administered herbal remedies in an attempt to manage the illness, but her condition continued to deteriorate. As the symptoms worsened, a Community Health Volunteer assessed the child and, being aware of Helpster Charity, referred her to the hospital for further evaluation and treatment. She subsequently received the necessary medical care at the facility.

Baby Kilian presented with a three day history of bloody diarrhoea,mucoid, several episodes associated with vomitting and abdominal pains.On examination was dehydrated, investigations done and a final diagnosis of Amoebic dysentery with dehydration was settled on.Kylian was managed on intravenous fluids,anti emetics, analgesics, antibiotics,oral rehydration solutions and mineral supplements.Currently the baby has fully recovered,playful and active together with her siblings

Kilian was diagnosed with amoebic dysentery, an intestinal infection that causes abdominal pain, vomiting, and blood-stained diarrhea. At the time of presentation, the illness had progressed and required prompt medical attention to prevent complications such as severe dehydration, malnutrition, anemia, and spread of infection. Following diagnosis, appropriate treatment was initiated, including medication to eliminate the infection, fluid replacement, and supportive care. The prognosis is good, provided the full course of treatment is completed and follow-up recommendations are observed. With timely medical care, Kilian is expected to make a full recovery. However, if left untreated, amoebic dysentery can lead to severe illness, intestinal complications, and potentially life-threatening dehydration.
