Muhammed is an 8-year-old boy in grade 2 who dreams of becoming an engineer. He lives with his parents in a low-income household where his father works as a labourer and his mother is a petty trader. The family struggles to meet basic needs, living in a small apartment without electricity and relying on borehole water. He developed symptoms of headache, high fever, weakness, poor appetite, body pains, and abdominal pain. Due to financial constraints, his family was unable to seek timely hospital care and reached out for support. On examination, he was ill-looking and febrile. He was diagnosed with severe malaria and enteric fever, both serious infections requiring urgent medical treatment.

Muhammed an 8-yo- male child presented with complaints of headache, fever, weakness of the body, inability to feed, he also had associated body pain and abdominal pain. On examination, a young boy, ill looking, febrile with temperature 38.7 degree Celsius, not jaundiced, acyanosed. He was diagnosed with Severe Malaria and Enteric fever. Treatment commenced with injection antimalarials like artesunate, injection antibiotics like ceftriaxone, antipyretics and other supportive care until stable and fit for discharge. He is to return for follow up after 1 week. The family extends gratitude to Helpster Charity for the medical support.

Severe malaria and enteric fever are serious infectious conditions that can significantly affect a child’s health when they occur together. Severe malaria involves high parasite levels and systemic illness, while enteric fever is a bacterial infection that affects the gastrointestinal system and can lead to complications if untreated. The combination increases the risk of dehydration, weakness, and systemic involvement, requiring prompt hospital-based care. With appropriate treatment, including antimalarial and antibiotic therapy along with supportive care, recovery is expected. Prognosis is generally good with timely intervention, but delayed or inadequate treatment may result in complications such as severe anemia, intestinal complications, or systemic infection.
