Isah A., 4

Isah is a 4 year old male child. He is currently staying with his single mother who is taking care of him, she was divorced from a polygamous setting where the husband currently has 3 other wives. He could no longer continue taking care of Isah that is why he divorced his mother. The mother is currently finding it very difficult to provide for herself and Isah. She is staying in an apartment having a pit toilet, she is making use of well water for daily activities. They have access to electricity. Isah is a 4-year-old cerebral palsy male child, he presented with high grade fever, poor appetite, catarrh and abdominal distention. He is said to have become ill with fever, suddenly the condition worsened within the past three days. The mother is left alone to take care of the child as the father does not take responsibility. She contacted a volunteer for assistance. They're at Albishir hospital for proper medical evaluation. On presentation, Isah was thoroughly reviewed, examination revealed a very ill looking child, febrile (38.5o C). anicteric, and acyanosed. He was diagnosed with Severe Malaria and Enteric fever.

A 4-year-old cerebral palsy male child presented with high grade fever, poor appetite, catarrh and abdominal distention. On examination, a very ill looking child, very warm to touch, unicteric, acyanose, febrile (38.5o C). He was diagnosed with Severe Malaria and Enteric fever. Treatment commenced with injection antimalarials, injection antibiotics, antipyretics to ease with bringing down the pains and temperature, some cough syrup and vitamins. Patient became stable after hospital stay, temperature was back to normal, catarrh stopped and eventually patient was discharged with some take home drugs. He is to be returned for follow up after 1 week. The mother extended gratitude for the medical support to Helpster Charity team.

We see Isah a 4-year-old cerebral palsy male child, as having severe co-infection and requires urgent admission and treatment of the severe malaria and enteric fever to avoid complications to the child. The combined infection increases morbidity, complicates diagnosis, and worsens prognosis if not promptly treated with antimalarials, appropriate antibiotics, and supportive care. Early recognition and aggressive management are critical. Prognosis is improved with prompt and effective treatment.
