Fatima Mohd is an 18-year-old young woman from a socioeconomically disadvantaged background. Her father is a vegetable vendor with a limited and unstable income, which is insufficient to meet the family’s basic needs. Since the onset of the insurgency that has affected their community, the family has relied significantly on support from non-governmental organizations (NGOs) for both food and non-food items. Fatima is actively involved in supporting her younger siblings and demonstrates a strong sense of responsibility within the household. She aspires to become a medical doctor in the future, with the goal of contributing positively to her community. Fatima Mohd, an 18-year-old female, presented with intermittent left flank pain for 2 months, associated with occasional nausea and mild urinary frequency. At UMD, she was seen, examined, evaluated and Diagnosed with Ureteropelvic junction (UPJ) obstruction with grade 2 hydronephrosis. Management plan: For Pyeloplasty upon approval by Helpster charity foundation.

Fatima,an 18-year-old girl, presented with a history of Intermittent flank pain accompanied by nausea for two months.After thorough evaluation and investigation, she was diagnosed with Ureteropelvic junction obstruction. She underwent successful Pyeloplasty surgery without immediate complications. Due to the nature of her condition, she was admitted for 3 days for close monitoring and post-operative care. Fatima,has recovered well and was discharged home after 3 days, with a follow-up appointment scheduled for 1 week. Currently, she is doing well, has fully recovered, and has resumed her regular activities. We appreciate the timely intervention by Helpster and the UMD Medical team.

The patient has been diagnosed with Ureteropelvic Junction Obstruction, a condition that can impair urinary drainage from the kidney and lead to progressive renal dysfunction if left untreated. Based on the clinical findings, surgical intervention in the form of pyeloplasty is recommended as the most appropriate management to relieve obstruction, alleviate symptoms, and preserve renal function. The prognosis following pyeloplasty is generally excellent, with a success rate exceeding 90%. Postoperative recovery typically involves close monitoring, adequate pain management, and supportive care with regular follow-up is essential to assess surgical outcomes and ensure improvement and preservation of kidney function.
