Background

Hassan is a 1 year old child, he is a twin, identical to be specific, they're the 4th children among 5 children. The father is a domestic farmer and the mother is a house wife, they own their apartment where they have 2 rooms and a single pit toilet. There are other children in the house, some go to school and others don't because of financial constraints. Sometimes they struggle to feed. They make use of well water for their daily activities, they don't have access to electricity. Patient was well until 4 days ago when he started coughing with nasal discharge and noisy breathing due to discharge. Two days later, he started having fever, vomiting everything ingested associated with watery mucoid stooling and refused to eat. On examination, a weak, ill infant, irritable, febrile, unicteric, acyanosed, tachypneic, He was diagnosed with severe Malaria and Enteric fever. They cannot pay his medical bills that is why they contacted Helpstar Charity for medical assistance. The child was admitted and thoroughly evaluation was carried out.

Medical history

Hassan is a 1year old male infant who was well until 4 days ago when he started coughing with nasal discharge and noisy breathing due to discharge. Two days later, he started vomiting everything ingested associated with watery mucoid stooling and refused to eat. On examination, a weak, ill infant, irritable, febrile, unicteric, acyanosed, tachypneic, He was diagnosed with severe Malaria and Enteric fever. Treatment commenced with injection antimalarials, injection antibiotics and other supportive care, fever stopped, no more coughing and watery stooling ceased, he was discharged with some oral medications and asked to return for follow up after 1 week. The mother is so happy for the medical support, she extended her gratitude to Helpster Charity and the entire team.

Prognosis

Hassan was diagnosed Severe Malaria and Enteric Fever (typhoid) which is causing serious illness and requires urgent admission and treatment. Aminu presented with high fever, vomiting, and diarrhea. Hassan was admitted at our facility and diagnosed with severe malaria and enteric fever. Together, they can lead to dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, septicemia, and worsening anemia. Patient appeared toxic, weak, and febrile with poor oral intake, management includes prompt antimalarial therapy, appropriate antibiotics, fluid resuscitation, and close monitoring to prevent complications and improve outcomes. Prognosis can be good with prompt and appropriate treatment.
