Prince Milton is the first-born twin in a family headed by a single mother who lives with the children’s grandmother after being abandoned by her husband shortly after the twins were born. The family experiences significant financial hardship and relies mainly on the grandmother’s support and occasional casual jobs to survive. Meeting basic needs such as food, healthcare, and other necessities remains a daily challenge. Prince Milton had been in good health until 20th April when he suddenly became weak and dull, developed high fever, refused to feed, and later developed diarrhoea. His mother initially gave him a one-day dose of oral Artemether-Lumefantrine, Flagyl, and paracetamol obtained from a neighbour. However, his condition did not improve by the following day. She later administered herbal medicine recommended by the grandmother, but she reported that his condition worsened afterward. Concerned by the worsening symptoms, she decided to bring both twins to the hospital for medical attention. The family learned about Helpster Charity through a Community Health Volunteer.

Prince Milton was brought to the facility lethargic sicklooking and dehydrated.He was attended to promptly by the clinical team and samples were taken for investigations.A diagnosis of gastroenteritis was made and was commenced on iv fluids to replace fluids lost and also iv antibiotic was commenced to treat any underlying infection.On the last day he had fevers on and off and blood samples were taken for malaria test.A diagnosis of malaria was made on the last day of his stay at the hospital and was commenced on oral antimalarials since he was then stable enough to take oral medications as he continued with other medications.He was discharged in a stable condition with oral medications to continue care at home.

Following medical assessment, Prince Milton was diagnosed with severe dehydration secondary to gastroenteritis and severe malaria. Doctors noted that he presented with high fever, diarrhoea, weakness, poor feeding, and lethargy, indicating a serious illness requiring urgent treatment and close monitoring. Immediate management, including fluid replacement, antimalarial medication, and supportive care, was initiated. He is responding well to treatment, with gradual improvement in feeding, hydration, activity, and overall condition. With continued medication adherence, proper nutrition, hydration, and follow-up care, his prognosis is good and he is expected to recover fully. The diagnoses if not attended to promptly especially in children can be fatal within few days.
