Prince Brighton is the first-born twin in a family headed by a single mother who currently lives with the children’s grandmother after her husband abandoned her shortly after the twins were born. Prince Brighton is described as a quiet, calm, and polite child, unlike his twin brother who is more playful and active. The family faces significant financial hardship and depends largely on the grandmother’s support and occasional casual jobs to meet their daily needs. Access to food, healthcare, and other basic necessities is often a challenge. Prince Brighton was well until the night of the 20th when he developed high fever and diarrhoea. His mother initially gave him herbal medicine recommended by the grandmother, hoping his condition would improve, but by the following day he became more unwell. He developed worsening weakness, excessive body hotness, reduced activity, poor feeding, and persistent diarrhoea. As his condition continued to deteriorate, he and his twin brother were rushed to the hospital for urgent medical attention.

Prince Brighton was brought to the facility together with his twin brother while was lethargic sicklooking dehydrated and wasted.He was attended to promptly by the clinical team and samples were taken for investigations.A diagnosis of gastroenteritis was made and was commenced on iv fluids to replace fluids lost and also iv antibiotic was commenced to treat any underlying infection.On day 3 after admission he had fevers on and off and blood samples were taken for malaria test.A diagnosis of malaria was made and was commenced on iv antimalarials as he continued with other medications.He was later discharged in a stable condition with oral medications tk continue care at home.

Following medical evaluation, Prince Brighton was diagnosed with severe dehydration secondary to gastroenteritis and severe malaria. Doctors noted that he appeared weak, febrile, lethargic, dehydrated, and unable to feed well, indicating a serious illness requiring urgent treatment. Immediate management, including fluid replacement, antimalarial medication, and close monitoring, was initiated. He gradually responded well to treatment and showed improvement in hydration, feeding, and activity levels. With continued medication adherence, proper nutrition, and follow-up care, his prognosis is good and he is expected to recover fully.
