Sanusi A., 18

He attends Government secondary school Nasarawa , he is JSS 1 and want to become a doctor in the future. He likes playing football with his friends. He is the last born of the family, his father join people for daily work either farming or laborer, while his mom sells Kunu, a local drink common in Nigeria. The 18year old is a a known sickle cell disease patient who presented with difficulty breathing, facial puffiness, bilateral leg swelling, and pallor. The child was initially taken to Yusuf Dantsoho Memorial Hospital, Tudun Wada, where he was treated for malaria and enteric fever. He was subsequently referred to Epsilon by a nurse, at our facility Sanusi was evaluated and diagnosed with Nephrotic Syndrome, Malaria, in a Sickle Cell Patient.

Sanusi Abubakar, an 18-year-old with sickle cell anemia, was admitted on 27th April 2026 with facial puffiness, difficulty in breathing, and severe anemia with a PCV of 10% caused by malaria and enteric fever on a background of nephrotic syndrome. He was promptly treated with 2 units of packed red blood cells, intravenous hydrocortisone, ceftazidime, and furosemide, plus oral spironolactone and intramuscular chloroquine with piriton. With this care, his condition improved significantly and his PCV rose to 23%. On 2nd May 2026, he was discharged in stable condition with medications including prednisolone, ciprofloxacin, folic acid, ferrous sulphate, and paracetamol. He was advised to complete his drugs, maintain good hydration and nutrition, and was scheduled for follow-up at the Medical Outpatient Clinic on 8th May 2026.

A sickle cell anemia patient who suffers from Hemolytic crisis since last year. Recently he developed slight dyspnoea, fascial puffiness, Bilateral pedal edema, slight hepatomegaly. He was treated for malaria and severe anaemia at Dantsoho hospital. He was subsequently transferred to our facility with a PCV of 10%. Prognosis - With proper management of the kidney inflammation, the child has a strong chance of recovery. The heart condition also needs to be treated with diuretics, and blood transfusions are essential to stabilize his health. If he receives this care consistently, his medical team is optimistic that he can pull through and return to normal life.
