Rhoda Mbithe M., 17

Rhoda was referred to our facility for medical assistance by Vincent, a Helpster Charity volunteer, following a medical camp conducted in one of the city slums where she resides. She lives with her siblings in the slums and is the third-born in a family of six children. Despite the difficult living conditions and financial struggles faced by her family, Rhoda dreams of becoming a doctor in the future. Rhoda had been experiencing persistent abdominal pain for the past six months, accompanied by frequent passage of loose watery stools, symptoms that reportedly began after giving birth. Due to financial constraints, she had not been able to access proper medical care or medication during this period. Over time, the pain progressively worsened and became severe, affecting her ability to eat, rest, and carry out daily activities. By the time she sought treatment, she appeared very weak, exhausted, dehydrated, and visibly distressed. She complained of severe abdominal discomfort, generalized body weakness, and fatigue, and looked unable to cope with the pain.

Rhoda presents with very severe abdominal pain alongside vomiting and mild dizziness both contributing to her current condition of poor feeding, and weakness. She has been admitted for inpatient management and was diagnosed with gastritis and PUD, she was managed with antibiotics, and fluids: Esomeprazole 40g iv, hyoscine 40mg iv and pcm 1g iv. At the time of assessment, she is stable and responding well to treatment. Rhoda has a good prognosis, Improvement is expected to support full recovery.She was discharged with esomeprazole/nexiole 20mg capsules, metronidazole 400mg/ tricozole tabs and hyoscine 10mg tabs

She has been admitted for inpatient management and was diagnosed with gastritis and PUD, Most of the time, gastritis is temporary and not serious. But if gastritis goes on for a while or left untreated, it can eventually begin to damage your stomach lining leaving wounds (ulcers). This can lead to complications if left untreated.
