Hafsat A., 13

Hafsat is a 13yo female teenager living with her parents and 4 siblings. She attends a government secondary school, she wishes to be a successful business woman. The parents are struggling to provide for the family. The father is a labourer and the mother is a house wife. They live in a 2 rooms apartment having a pit toilet, a well, available electricity, with 15,000 monthly income. Hafsat’s illness started 2 days ago with headache, dizziness and vomiting. Her body was very hot yesterday and necessitated presentation in our facility. On examination, a teenage female child, febrile (38.0o), unicteric, acyanosed, palor. She was diagnosed with severe malaria and enteritis. The family were stranded due to lack of finances, they contacted Helpster Charity for assistance. The child was brought in for proper evaluation.

Hafsat’s illness started 2 days ago with headache, dizziness and vomiting. Her body was very hot yesterday and necessitated presentation in our facility. On examination, a teenage female child, febrile (38.0o), unicteric, acyanosed, palor. She was diagnosed with severe malaria and enteritis. She was admitted and after evaluation she was managed with injection antimalarials like Iv artesunate, antibiotics such as ceftriaxone, Amoxil and Iv fluid was also served along with some antipyretics to help calm the fever and high temperature. She became stable and discharged. Some orals was served to continue home treatment. The parents are happy, they extend gratitude to Helpster Charity, hospital and everyone.

Hafsat is diagnosed with severe malaria and enteritis, was quite sick and had to be admitted for immediate treatment to avoid severe complications, neurological damage, organ failure, or death. Prognosis for severe malaria is favorable with early diagnosis, prompt antimalarial treatment and for enteritis is generally good with timely rehydration, infection control, and supportive management. Severe dehydration, persistent infection, or delayed treatment will increase the risk of complications and prolonged recovery.
