Why is treatment done earlier than admission?
Sometimes, when a case is urgent and vital, hospitals may proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalization of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts.
That's why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Background
Five-year-old Alkali Bulama is an orphaned boy living with his elderly, impoverished grandmother in a northeastern Nigerian displaced persons' settlement after his parents were killed by insurgents. Traumatized and withdrawn, Alkali suffers from severe economic hardship and lacks access to basic food, clean water, or medical care due to the region's destroyed infrastructure. Five-year-old Alkali suffered for months from worsening bladder pain, blood-stained urine, and agonizing urination that eventually escalated into severe vomiting, fever, and debilitating lower back pain. Unable to eat or move, the young boy had to be carried on his grandmother's back for over two hours to a clinic, where he was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection complicated by kidney stones.
Medical history
Alkali Bulama, a 5-year-old boy, was admitted in severe pain and distress caused by small stones lodged in his ureter, which were blocking his urine flow and causing fever and discomfort. He could barely eat or drink, and his grandmother, who had raised him, was worried sick. Thanks to Helpster Charity, Alkali received urgent medical care including antibiotics to fight infection, intravenous fluids to keep him hydrated, and pain relief to ease his suffering. Doctors successfully removed the small stones from his ureter, and almost immediately, Alkali began to feel better. His fever resolved, his appetite returned, and he was able to eat and drink comfortably again. He was discharged on 1st May 2026 in stable condition, with doctors recommending continued follow-up care to ensure his full recovery. His grandmother wept with joy, expressing deep gratitude from the bottom of her heart to Helpster Charity for the support that saved her grandson's life and gave him a healthy future. Alkali is now recovering well, slowly regaining his strength and returning to his normal, playful self.
Prognosis
ALkali presented with a three-month history of progressive urinary symptoms, including painful urination, cloudy and blood-stained urine, and increased frequency of urination, which later progressed to fever, vomiting, and severe left flank pain. He was diagnosed with a complicated urinary tract infection, with suspicion of possible pyelonephritis and/or associated renal stones. He was promptly admitted and treated with intravenous antibiotics, intravenous fluids, and pain control. Diagnostic evaluation, including imaging with ultrasound, was carried out to assess for kidney involvement and possible stones. Following treatment, his condition improved significantly. The fever and vomiting resolved, flank pain reduced, and urinary symptoms improved. He was stabilized and continued on oral antibiotics for full recovery. With timely medical intervention, his prognosis was favorable, and he was discharged in stable condition with advice for follow-up to prevent recurrence and monitor kidney function.
