Ryan Harvey O., 3

Ryan is a 3-year-old child living with his single mother and has not yet started school. He enjoys playing with toys at home, especially as they live in a sparsely populated area. His favourite meal is rice and beans. His mother works night shifts as a watchlady to support the family. He was referred from Awasi Mission Hospital for further management due to severe anaemia. Prior to referral, he had a history of fever, abdominal pain, and constipation lasting about two weeks. On arrival, laboratory investigations were carried out and clinical review confirmed severe anaemia, iron deficiency anaemia, and bacteremia. Based on the findings, admission was recommended for further management. He was admitted and later reviewed by the paediatrician, who initiated treatment including transfusion of two units of packed red blood cells. Further investigations were done, including haemoglobin electrophoresis, which confirmed sickle cell disease as the underlying condition.

The patient came in with complains of hotness of body, abdominal pains, constipation for two weeks. The patient was taken to the lab for the test. The doctor reviewed the patient with lab results and diagnosed him with Severe anaemia, Bacteremia, Iron deficiency anaemia. The doctor recommended admission for furthert management. The patient was admitted and later reviewed by the pediatrician. He was transfused two units of pack red cells. Hb electrophoresis test was requested by the pediatrician after admission which came out to be positive. The patient was given medication in the ward, responded well and later discharged in a stable condition and discharge drugs issued.
