Yahaya Ibrahim is a four-year-old boy who attends Nursery 1 in a suburban community. He lives with his parents and two siblings in a local home near a stream. Yahaya is usually an energetic and playful child who loves drawing with crayons, kicking a plastic ball, and sharing snacks with his friends. His parents are small-scale vegetable traders who work hard to provide for their children despite limited resources. About two weeks before coming to the hospital, Yahaya developed a low-grade fever, tiredness, and loss of appetite. Associated pain in the right upper side of his belly and tiredness to play or draw. His teacher reported that he was falling asleep in class. Approximately ten days after the fever began, his mother noticed that the whites of his eyes had turned yellow, and his skin had a yellowish tint. His urine became dark brown like tea, and his stools turned pale gray. He also developed nausea and vomited twice. Frightened by the yellowing, his parents immediately took him to the general hospital. Diagnosed with Acute Hepatitis, Hepatocellular Injury.

Yahaya Ibrahim has acute viral hepatitis, causing jaundice, dark urine, pale stools, abdominal pain, fatigue, and poor appetite. Likely hepatitis A or B due to incomplete vaccination. He received supportive care hydration, rest, and monitoring. Yahaya is now recovering well. Thanks to Helper Charity for funding his treatment.

Dr. Zainab examined Yahaya, who presents with a two-week history of fever, fatigue, poor appetite, right upper abdominal pain, and jaundice with dark urine and pale stools, is suggestive of acute hepatitis with cholestasis. He requires urgent liver function tests, hepatitis serology, and abdominal ultrasound, along with supportive care including IV fluids, nutrition, and close monitoring. Prognosis depends on the cause and severity; many cases recover fully with treatment, but severe disease may progress to liver failure. Without proper care, he is at risk of dehydration, liver failure, and death.
