Mohammed B., 13

Mohammed Babagana Dunoma is a 13-year-old schoolboy from a humble family background. He is known by his parents and teachers as a respectful, hardworking, and intelligent child who takes his education seriously despite the financial challenges his family faces. He often assists his parents with household responsibilities and sometimes helps with small family errands after school. He dreams of becoming an engineer. Mohammed began experiencing pain during urination several months ago. Eventually, the pain became more severe and was associated with difficulty passing urine, lower abdominal pain, with occasional discomfort. His parents initially thought it was a minor infection and tried home remedies, but his condition worsened. When he started having repeated urinary obstruction and discomfort affecting his school attendance, his family sought assistance through Helpster Charity Foundation. At UMD, he was evaluated and diagnosed with Bladder stone requiring extraction via open Bladder surgery.

Mohammed presented with Bladder stone. Imaging and clinical assessment confirmed a large calculus, too large to be fragmented and is unlikely to pass spontaneously via the urethra despite adequate hydration and conservative management. Surgical extraction is the best option in this condition. Mohammed will be admitted for the surgery and post operative treatment with fluid, antibiotics and pain killer upon approval by Helpster charity foundation. Prognosis - is good with prompt treatment but delays causes severe complications. He is expected to have a successful surgery without complication with full resolution of symptoms, recovery of strength and normal activity post operatively.
