Usman M., 16

Usman Mallam Ali is a 16-year-old student from a low-income family. He is known as a calm and responsible boy who helps his parents with domestic activities and supports his younger siblings. Despite financial limitations, he remains committed to his education and hopes to become a medical doctor one day. His illness has greatly affected his daily activities and academic performance. Usman started experiencing fever, body weakness, flank pain, and painful urination for several weeks. Initially, his family thought it was malaria, but his condition progressively worsened. When he developed severe weakness and persistent pain on both sides of his lower back, they sought assistance through Helpster Charity Foundation for urgent medical care. At UMD he was assessed clinically and diagnosed to have Acute Bilateral pyelonephritis. He was admitted and treatment commenced with intravenous antibiotic, fluid and pain relief medication administered.

Usman was seen and evaluated to have Bilateral pyelonephritis a severe kidney infection requiring urgent treatment. He will be admitted for the course of the treatment which involves rehydration, antibiotics and painkiller to relieve his symptoms and avert potential complications. The prognosis for acute pyelonephritis is excellent with full recovery if appropriate antibiotic treatment is started promptly before kidney damage occurs. However, delays in care can lead to serious long-term complications, such as permanent kidney scarring or recurrent infections, especially in individuals with underlying urinary tract issues. With prompt treatment he is expected to regain full strength and recovery.
