Why is treatment done earlier than admission?
Sometimes, when a case is urgent and vital, hospitals may proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalization of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts.
That's why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Background
Baby Stella is the only child of her parents. Her father is a fisherman, while her mother is a homemaker and a school dropout. The family lives in a modest two-room mud-walled house and faces significant financial challenges. Stella's mother realized she was pregnant after missing her menstrual periods for two months and experiencing symptoms such as dizziness, headaches, and breast changes. The pregnancy was confirmed at Got Agulu Sub-County Hospital, where she was enrolled in antenatal care services. Later in the pregnancy, she developed abdominal pain, pallor, and fatigue, requiring admission at Got Agulu Health Centre. Due to worsening maternal health concerns, she was referred to Siaya County Referral Hospital for specialized management. At birth, Baby Stella appeared pink in colour but failed to cry immediately after delivery. She was noted to have poor respiratory effort, reduced activity, and a delayed response to stimulation, raising concerns about birth asphyxia. The newborn required urgent resuscitation and close monitoring shortly after delivery. Due to her condition, she was promptly transferred to the newborn unit for specialized care and management to support her breathing and recovery.
Medical history
Baby Stella was born through an emergency caesarean surgery, examination after being born revealed she was not breathing well,, she was diagnosed with birth asphyxia and respiratory distress syndrome, this warranted admission into the new born unit for management In the unit she was administered oxygen therapy, she had no suckling reflex thus was unable to breastfeed, she was fed on formula and administered 10% dextrose. She responded well to treatment and could breathe spontaneously room air, she could also breastfeed well. She was discharged on orals and a follow up clinic booked for her
Prognosis
The prognosis of a newborn diagnosed with both Birth Asphyxia and Respiratory Distress Syndrome depends on the severity of the conditions, the gestational age of the baby, and how quickly appropriate treatment is provided. Baby Stella was promptly admitted to the new born unit Prognosis is good
