Why is treatment done earlier than admission?

Sometimes, when a case is urgent and vital, hospitals may proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalization of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts.
That's why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Background

Lexin is the firstborn child in her family and lives with her grandmother, who is her primary caregiver, in a single-room rented house. Her grandmother supports the household through small-scale farming, earning an average monthly income of about KSh 2,700. The family fetches drinking water from a community borehole and shares a pit latrine with neighboring households. Despite these difficult living conditions, they continue to work hard to meet their daily needs. Lexin recently developed a severe illness characterized by high fever, rapid breathing, wheezing, extreme weakness, poor feeding, and persistent lethargy. Her condition deteriorated to the point where she was unable to play, eat normally, or carry out her usual activities, causing great concern to her grandmother. Fearing for her life, her grandmother sought urgent medical attention despite her financial challenges. She took Lexin to Mechimeru Hospital, where she explained her inability to afford the required medical expenses. After listening to her concerns, the Nursing Officer in Charge assured her that Lexin would receive treatment through the support of Helpster Charity Organization. This assistance enabled Lexin to access quality medical care, giving her a chance to recover and regain her health despite the family's financial hardships.

Medical history

After being diagnosed with Acute Bronchiolitis, Lexin was given supportive treatment aimed at easing her breathing and managing her symptoms. This included monitoring of vital signs, fever reduction medication, ensuring adequate fluid intake to prevent dehydration, and oxygen therapy if her breathing difficulty worsened. The healthcare team also provided close observation to ensure her airway remained clear and that her condition improved steadily. As treatment progressed, Lexin’s breathing became easier, the wheezing reduced, her fever subsided, and her appetite gradually returned. Overall, she showed positive response to treatment and began recovering well, with improved energy levels and stabilization of her condition.

Prognosis

According to the doctor’s prognosis, Lexin is expected to recover well from Acute Bronchiolitis if she receives prompt and appropriate treatment, which includes supportive care such as oxygen therapy if needed, fever management, adequate fluids, and close monitoring of her breathing. With treatment, her wheezing and fast breathing should gradually reduce, her appetite is likely to improve, and she can return to normal daily activities without long-term effects in most cases. However, if left untreated, the condition may worsen, leading to severe breathing difficulty, low oxygen levels, dehydration, and possible respiratory failure. In severe cases, it could become life-threatening, especially for a young child, and may require emergency intensive care.
