Samwel O., 2

Samwel is the firstborn in a family of three children and lives with his parents, and grandparents although he spends much of his time with his grandmother. His father works as a motorcycle taxi rider employed by another person and is the family's sole breadwinner, while his mother is a housewife. His father's earnings are very limited, making it difficult for the family to consistently meet their basic needs. Despite these challenges, Samwel is a cheerful and sociable boy with a broad smile who enjoys playing with other children. Samwel had been well until 6th July, when he developed a high fever, vomiting and diarrhoea. His grandmother initially gave him herbal remedies, but his condition continued to worsen, and he later developed a cough and runny nose. She sought assistance from their Community Health Promoter, who referred him to the hospital for further assessment. Samwel was promptly evaluated and admitted for treatment.

Samwel was brought into the facility with history of H.O.B vomiting, diarreah ,cough and loss of appetite the grandmother having tried herbal medication with no improvement. The CHP then directed them to the hospital. Upon reaching the facility he was attended to and diagnosis of Severe malaria and G.E was made. He was commenced on IV antimalarials IV fluids for replacement of fluid and electrolytes loss and IV Flagyl. The prognosis was fair and upon discharged was given oral antimalarials flagyl,ORS and pcm.Samwel has recovered and has joined her grandparents and parents at home and can now play with his kid brother.

Samwel was diagnosed with gastroenteritis and malaria, presenting with fever, vomiting and diarrhoea. These conditions can cause significant fluid loss, dehydration, weakness and other complications, particularly in young children. Despite receiving IV fluids, antimalarial medication and other supportive treatment, Samwel remains unwell and requires continued treatment and close monitoring. His prognosis is guarded but favourable
