Ibrahim is a 2 year old male child who happens to be the last child among 3 children. He is staying with his parents and 2 siblings in a 2 rooms apartment. The family struggle to feed because the parents are not currently working. The father always goes out to seek of eat , Their monthly income 5000, They have a pit toilet in the house, a well, no access to electricity,A 2-year-old male child whose illness started about 3 weeks ago with low grade fever on and off, but the condition became severe about a week ago with associated cough, runny nose and lost of appetite. Patient has lost weight and is very week.

Ibrahim, a 2yo male child was brought to our facility with symptoms of malaria and other associated signs of illness. Investigations were carried out with results showing significant positive results. On examination, an ill looking 2yo male child, febrile++. He was diagnosed with severe lower respiratory tract infection, severe malaria and severe anemia. He was commenced treatment with injection antimalarials, injection antibiotics and other supportive care. Patient was later transfused 1 pack of red blood cell. After 6 days of hospital stay, patient was stable and discharged with some orals for home treatment. The family looks very happy for supporting their child to be well again, they extend their gratitude.

Severe LRTI is a potentially fatal respiratory infection requiring urgent antibiotics, oxygen, and close monitoring to prevent respiratory failure, sepsis, and other life-threatening complications. Prognosis is generally good with early treatment, but delayed intervention may lead to respiratory failure, prolonged hospitalization, permanent lung damage, sepsis, or death in severe cases. Severe malaria is a medical emergency requiring immediate hospitalization, intravenous antimalarials, fluid management, and supportive care to prevent organ failure, cerebral complications, and mortality. Prognosis is favorable with prompt diagnosis and treatment, but delayed care increases risks of cerebral malaria, kidney failure, severe anemia, shock, permanent disability, or death. Severe anemia requires urgent evaluation and treatment because reduced oxygen delivery may cause heart strain, organ dysfunction, weakness, and life-threatening complications if untreated. Prognosis is on the underlying cause and treatment response. Early intervention usually ensures recovery, while delayed management will result in cardiac failure, chronic complications, or death. Ibrahim had a timely intervention.
