Why is treatment done earlier than admission?

Sometimes, when a case is urgent and vital, hospitals may proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalization of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts.
That's why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Background

Abubakar Bala is a cheerful 3-year-old boy who loves playing with his older siblings. He lives with his parents in a small farming village in Birniwa Local Government Area, where poverty makes life difficult. His father is a subsistence farmer, while his mother sells firewood at the local market. With no savings or health insurance, the family struggles to afford even basic healthcare. Abubakar was well until five days before presentation when he developed a high fever, chills, vomiting, and severe weakness. As the fever persisted, he became pale, lethargic, and refused to eat, leaving his parents deeply worried. Having no money for treatment, they brought him to Adari Medical Clinic after hearing about the Helpster Charity Foundation. After examination and investigations, Abubakar was diagnosed with severe malaria complicated by dehydration and mild anemia. He was admitted for three days and treated with intravenous antimalarial medication, fluids, and close monitoring. With timely care and support, his condition improved, giving his family renewed hope for his recovery and future.

Medical history

Abubakar's mother arrived at Adari Medical Clinic with her son limp in her arms, his small body burning with fever. She was crying, terrified. "He was playing yesterday," she said. "Today he cannot even lift his head. Please help my son." Doctors admitted him immediately. A small IV line was placed in his tiny arm, and intravenous artesunate began to drip into his veins. His mother stayed by his bedside, holding his hand, praying. On the second day, his fever broke. On the third day, he sat up and asked for food. His mother wept with joy. "Thank you," she said. "You saved my son."

Prognosis

Abubakar Bala, a three-year-old boy, presented with severe malaria complicated by dehydration and mild anemia. He had high fever (39.8°C), lethargy, vomiting, inability to eat or drink, and parasitemia of 3.5%. This is a life-threatening emergency requiring urgent hospitalization. He needed immediate treatment with intravenous artesunate, intravenous fluids for rehydration, intravenous paracetamol for fever, and close monitoring of vital signs and organ function. He was admitted for 3 days and responded well to treatment. His fever resolved by day 2, and he was eating and playing by day 3. At discharge, he was afebrile, alert, and hemodynamically stable. Prognosis is excellent with prompt treatment. Full recovery is expected without long-term complications. If treatment had been delayed, he would have risked cerebral malaria, severe anemia, multi-organ failure, and death.
