Why is treatment done earlier than admission?

Sometimes, when a case is urgent and vital, hospitals may proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalization of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts.
That's why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Background

Abdul Abubakar is a 2-year-old boy living with his parents in a low-income household in Birniwa town. His family struggles financially, with his father working as a farm laborer and his mother caring for the home. Despite their hardship, he remains a loved child with hopes for a better future. He presented on 15th June 2026 with a 3-day history of high fever, chills, headache, body weakness, poor appetite, and increasing lethargy. The fever persisted despite home herbal treatment, and he became progressively less active, though without cough, vomiting, or diarrhea. On examination, he was febrile (39.2°C), pale but stable, with no organomegaly. Laboratory investigations confirmed Plasmodium falciparum malaria (parasitemia 2.8%) with mild anemia and thrombocytopenia. He was diagnosed with uncomplicated malaria (moderate parasitemia) with mild anemia and admitted for 3 days for intravenous antimalarial therapy, fluids, and close monitoring.

Medical history

Abdul, a two-year-old boy, was brought to Adari Medical Clinic with a history of fever, chills, and weakness. Following clinical evaluation and laboratory confirmation of moderate malaria, he was admitted for intravenous treatment and close monitoring. His parents were educated on the importance of completing the full course of antimalarial medication, using insecticide-treated nets, and maintaining good nutrition. Over three days, Abdul showed marked improvement 132his fever resolved, his appetite returned, and he regained his playful energy. He was discharged home in stable condition with oral medications to complete his treatment and instructions for follow-up. We thank Helpster Charity Foundation for providing the support that made Abdul's treatment and recovery possible.

Prognosis

Abdul Abubakar is a two-year-old child with confirmed Plasmodium falciparum malaria, presenting with moderate parasitemia, mild anemia, and thrombocytopenia but without any clinical or biochemical features of severe malaria. His clinical response to intravenous artesunate followed by oral artemether-lumefantrine has been prompt and satisfactory. This is an uncomplicated case of malaria with good therapeutic response and no evidence of end-organ involvement. His young age and nutritional status warranted inpatient management, but he has shown rapid clinical recovery. The prognosis is excellent. With completion of antimalarial therapy and routine follow-up, he is expected to make a full recovery without long-term complications.
