Bishwas Kumar A., 19

Bishwas Kumar Akka is a hardworking and ambitious 19-year-old young man from a tribal community who dreams of building a better future for his family after completing his SSC examination. His father, Bipul Kumar Akka, earns only about BDT 8,000 per month as a small farmer and is the sole source of income for the family, while his mother, Rina Rani, is a housewife, leaving them unable to afford the enormous cost of repeated surgeries and long-term treatment. After a devastating road accident caused a severe open fracture in his right leg, Bishwas underwent major surgery, but complications from infection and implant failure placed him at serious risk of permanent disability and loss of mobility. The family exhausted all their savings trying to save their son and eventually learned about Helpster Charity through Sushanto Kumar, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Bangladesh, who guided them toward life-saving support. Without timely advanced treatment, Bishwas could have suffered permanent deformity, chronic infection, lifelong disability, and the inability to walk independently, destroying his dreams and placing an even greater burden on his struggling family.

According to the treating physician, the fracture in Bishwas Kumar Akka’s right leg has successfully united. Removal of the Ilizarov External Fixator, followed by a long-leg full plaster slab for one month and physiotherapy, is expected to protect the healing bone, restore strength, and gradually improve his mobility. With proper rehabilitation and follow-up, he is expected to regain walking ability and return to his daily activities. If the recommended treatment and physiotherapy are delayed, he may develop persistent pain, joint stiffness, muscle weakness, difficulty walking, deformity, and long-term functional disability.
