Kelvin M., 15

Kelvin is a jovial, caring and hardworking boy who enjoys helping his grandparents with farm activities, playing football and watching movies. He hopes to become a farmer in the future. His father is the family's sole breadwinner and depends on irregular casual jobs to support his children and elderly parents. The financial burden is considerable as Kelvin has epilepsy requiring regular medication, while his grandmother has diabetes and hypertension requiring continuous treatment. Kelvin was brought to hospital by his father following recurrent convulsions associated with high fever, vomiting and headache. The symptoms had begun four days earlier, and a nearby government dispensary referred him to a higher-level facility due to the frequent seizures. However, financial difficulties delayed further care. Over the next two days, Kelvin's condition worsened, with increasingly frequent convulsions, persistent fever and headache. While seeking assistance, his father met a community health volunteer who informed him about Helpster Charity and advised him to take Kelvin to Good Hope Hospital for treatment and possible financial support.

Kelvin a known epilepsy patient was brought into the hospital and diagnosed with active convulsions and malaria. He spent three days in the hospital receiving intravenous antibiotic,anti seizures medication and antipyretic. Kelvin was confused, weak and sickly due to poor feeding. Two days later Kelvin's condition become better as he starts to be oriented and fever subsized with mild headache, Kelvin can now tolerate oral feeds.. His father was very happy and grateful to Helpster charity for saving his son's life according to him he couldn't know what would have happened to his son if not for Helpster charity intervention. Three days later Kelvin's condition was improving well and he was discharged from the hospital with oral medication to continue at home.

Severe Malaria prognosis is positive if urgent intervention of antibiotic antimalarial drugs are administered before the organ damage, Kelvin's healthy would be restored if anti seizures medication are administered parenterally and observed in the hospital set-up until the seizures are controlled. Apparently, epilepsy prognosis is poor, only depends on drugs to prevent reoccurrence and supportive treatment at home.
