Four-year-old Aliyu Muhammed Umar is the first child in a family of four. His father is a driver earning about ₦6,000 monthly, while his mother is a housewife with no income. The family lives in extreme poverty, struggling to afford food, healthcare, and other basic needs. They live in a single-room house constructed with sand walls and a thatched roof. About three months before presentation, Aliyu developed a painful swelling in his groin and scrotal area. The swelling became more noticeable during activities and was temporarily relieved by lying down and taking pain medication, but it gradually began interfering with his daily activities. He was evaluated at Yobe State Specialist Hospital and diagnosed with an inguinal scrotal hernia. The cost of surgery was beyond his family’s means, but charitable support enabled him to access the care he needs. He is stable and scheduled for herniorrhaphy to prevent further complications.
