Mohammad Abdullah Gazi is a one-month-old premature baby boy whose fragile health has required special medical attention from the beginning of his life. His father, Alamgir Gazi, is the sole earning member of the seven-member family and works as a farmer, earning approximately BDT 7,000 (about USD 57) per month, which is insufficient to cover the family’s basic needs and Abdullah’s medical expenses. His mother, two brothers, elder sister, and grandmother depend on this limited income, while his eldest brother has already had to discontinue his education and is searching for work to support the family. Despite his vulnerability, Abdullah’s innocent presence gives his family hope, but without the urgently required treatment, his eye condition may permanently affect his vision and future development. The family learned about Helpster Charity through Nasima Akhter, Counselor of the Pediatric Unit at Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital, Chandpur, and Helpster volunteer Md. Al Amin, giving them hope of securing the care he needs.

According to Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain Sheikh, Chief Consultant, and Dr. Md. Saiful Islam, ROP Specialist at Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital, Chandpur, timely administration of Anti-VEGF (Avastin) injections in both eyes, followed by regular retinal examinations, is expected to stop abnormal blood vessel growth and support proper retinal development. With early treatment and appropriate follow-up, Abdullah has a good chance of preserving functional vision and growing up with improved visual ability and independence. If treatment is delayed due to financial hardship, the disease may progress rapidly, causing irreversible retinal damage and permanent blindness, which could significantly affect his future development and quality of life.
