Tahmidul Islam Tanjim is a 3-year-old refugee child who lives with his mother and three siblings in a small bamboo and tarpaulin shelter, facing severe hardship after his father, the family’s sole earning member, went missing six months ago. With no stable income and a total family income of only approximately USD 8 per month, the family struggles even to secure regular meals and cannot afford the cost of Tanjim’s medical treatment. The family learned about Helpster Charity through the medical outreach at Kutupalong, and his maternal uncle sought assistance when Tanjim became critically ill with high-grade fever, cough, fast breathing, chest discomfort, and marked weakness. He was diagnosed with severe community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) with hypoxemia, requiring urgent medical attention. Without timely treatment, his severe infection and low oxygen level could worsen rapidly, leading to respiratory failure, life-threatening complications, or death.

According to the treating doctors, hospitalization with close monitoring, oxygen therapy for hypoxemia, pharmacological management, appropriate fluid and electrolyte correction, and nutritional support are recommended for Tanjim. With timely treatment, his lung infection and breathing difficulty are expected to improve, while oxygen therapy should help maintain adequate oxygen levels and support recovery. If left untreated, severe pneumonia with hypoxemia may rapidly worsen, causing persistent oxygen deficiency, respiratory failure, sepsis, and other life-threatening complications. Prompt treatment is therefore essential to stabilize his condition and support a safe recovery.
