Amena Akhter is a 15-year-old girl who loves reading and dreams of continuing her education, despite being unable to attend school because of her illness. She lives with her parents, Md. Sageir and Shahana Begum, and her 20-year-old brother, Md. Nayan, who works in a salon while her mother works in a local factory; together they earn only around USD 94 per month and live in a rented home in Market Camp, Mohammadpur. After suffering from tremors and body pain for nearly six months, Amena’s condition suddenly worsened with high fever, vomiting, loss of appetite, and severe abdominal pain, requiring emergency hospitalization at Al-Manar Hospital. The family’s limited income makes it impossible to afford the specialized treatment she needs, and without timely care, Wilson’s disease may lead to worsening liver and neurological problems and serious complications. The family learned about Helpster Charity through a medical outreach camp organized by Helpster Charity in Geneva Camp.

With Helpster’s support, Amena Akhter was admitted to Al-Manar Hospital Ltd. on July 14, 2026, severe symptoms caused by Wilson's Disease. Doctors immediately stabilized her condition with IV fluids, Ceftriaxone, and initiated copper-chelation therapy with Penicillamine to remove excess copper from her body. After spending a total of 12 days under close hospital care, she made great progress and was safely discharged on July 26, 2026. She returned home with daily oral medications, including Indever, Defrol, Tryptin, Cavic C Plus, and Neuro-B, alongside instructions for follow-up care at a specialized neurology center. The medical intervention successfully controlled her disease, significantly easing her hand tremors and severe pain so she can rest comfortably and look forward to a healthier future.

Hospital-based treatment with IV fluids, injectable antibiotics such as ceftriaxone, penicillamine, and supportive medication is expected to control the infection, improve her general condition, and begin management of copper accumulation associated with Wilson disease. With appropriate treatment and continued follow-up, her symptoms may improve and further liver and neurological damage may be prevented. If treatment is delayed or left untreated, Wilson disease can progressively damage the liver and nervous system, while the UTI may worsen and lead to further complications.
