Alvin is a six-month-old, cheerful and playful boy who lives with his mother, grandparents, uncles, and aunts in a rural village. His mother dropped out of school due to lack of school fees, and his father abandoned the family before Alvin was born. The household relies on the elderly grandparents, who are small-scale farmers, to provide for everyone's basic needs. Despite the financial hardship, Alvin is an active child who enjoys playing and babbling when well. A few days before admission, Alvin developed a persistent cough, excessive sweating, poor feeding, high fever, and progressive weakness. Unable to afford medical care, his mother initially managed him at home with pain relievers, but his condition continued to worsen. Hope came when Alvin's cousins informed the family about free treatment available at Awasi Catholic Mission Health Centre following a Helpster Charity awareness campaign conducted in local schools. His grandmother immediately took him to the facility that night, where he was assessed, tested, and admitted to the children's ward with malaria and a viral infection for prompt treatment.

Alvin was admitted to the ward and started on intravenous antibiotics, fever management and supportive treatment, including fluids and nutritional support, he was closely monitored and response to medication. Over the first few days of treatment, his condition gradually improved and was ready to be taken home. With continued treatment and observation, the baby showed steady and encouraging improvement. By the time of discharge, he was active and clinically stable. He was sent home with medication and follow-up instructions, bringing great relief and hope to his mother and family.

Alvin was diagnosed with severe malaria and viral infection, both serious and potentially life-threatening conditions. She required urgent medical intervention, including intravenous antibiotics, antimalarial treatment, and supportive care. Following timely treatment, his condition will gradually improve, with resolution of fever, reduced weakness, and improved appetite and activity levels.
