Mst. Runas is a hopeful 11-year-old refugee girl and the second of five siblings who, despite never having the opportunity to attend school, dreams of becoming a doctor and helping people in need. She lives with her parents and four siblings in a small bamboo-and-tarpaulin shelter, while her father is the family’s only earning member and finds irregular work as a day laborer, leaving them unable to afford her hospitalization and medicines. After learning about Helpster Charity through the medical outreach at Kutupalong, the family sought support when Runas became seriously ill with enteric fever, severe diarrhea, vomiting, dehydration, and electrolyte imbalance. Without timely treatment, she may develop severe fluid and electrolyte loss, kidney injury, intestinal complications, sepsis, shock, or organ failure. These complications can become life-threatening, making urgent treatment essential to help Runas recover and protect her hope for a healthier future.

According to the doctor, hospital admission with IV fluids, rehydration, antibiotics, nutritional support, and close monitoring is essential to control Runas’s infection and restore the fluids and electrolytes lost through diarrhea and vomiting. With timely treatment, her fever and gastrointestinal symptoms are expected to improve, allowing her to regain strength, hydration, and normal food intake. If left untreated, severe dehydration and electrolyte imbalance may lead to kidney injury, dangerously low blood pressure, shock, sepsis, organ failure, and other life-threatening complications. Early treatment offers a good chance of complete recovery.
