Precious is a one-year-old girl and the fourth-born child in a family of four. She lives with both her parents, who work hard to provide for the family despite significant financial hardship. Her mother earns a modest income of approximately KSh 2,800 per month from selling second-hand (Mitumba) clothes, which is the family's main source of livelihood. They live in a rented two-room house, share a pit latrine with neighboring households, and obtain drinking water from a community borehole. Their limited income makes it difficult to meet basic needs, including food, healthcare, and other household expenses. Two days before admission, Precious developed a high fever, wheezing, chest pain, rapid breathing, poor feeding, and increasing weakness. Her mother made every effort to seek medical care but was unable to afford treatment because of financial constraints. She therefore took Precious to Mechimeru Hospital, where she explained the family's situation to the facility in-charge. After assessment, the facility assured her that Precious would receive treatment under the support of Helpster Charity, allowing her to access the urgent medical care she required.

The doctor's prognosis is that with prompt and appropriate treatment, Precious has a good chance of recovering fully and returning to normal daily activities. Treatment, including antibiotics (if the infection is bacterial), oxygen therapy, adequate fluids, and supportive care, is expected to improve her breathing, clear the lung infection, and prevent serious complications. However, if severe pneumonia is left untreated, the infection can worsen, leading to respiratory failure, sepsis, permanent lung damage, or even death.
