Mahmudul Hasan is a bright and hopeful 7-year-old Rohingya boy who studies in Grade Two, cares for his two younger siblings, and dreams of becoming a teacher. His father is the family’s only potential earner, but irregular day-labor work often leaves him without income, forcing the family to depend largely on World Food Programme food assistance and making hospital treatment unaffordable. After learning about Helpster Charity through the medical outreach at Kutupalong, the family sought urgent support when Mahmudul developed an acute intestinal obstruction with severe abdominal pain, vomiting, fever, and abdominal swelling. Without timely treatment, the obstruction may cut off the blood supply to the intestine, causing bowel tissue death, perforation, severe abdominal infection, and sepsis. These complications can rapidly become life-threatening, making urgent hospital care essential to save Mahmudul’s life and help him return to his family and education.

According to the doctor, immediate hospitalization with IV fluids, electrolyte correction, symptom management, necessary investigations, and surgical consultation is essential to stabilize Mahmudul and determine the cause and severity of the intestinal obstruction. With timely treatment, the obstruction can be relieved, allowing normal bowel function, feeding, and strength to gradually return. If left untreated, the intestine may become completely blocked or lose its blood supply, causing bowel tissue death or perforation. This can lead to severe abdominal infection, sepsis, shock, and organ failure, which may become life-threatening.
